Wait! These are garnets? I thought garnets were red…

Well, yes, garnets are red, but they are also pink, peach, orange, yellow, green, purple, and very rarely blue.  Sometimes they even change color depending on whether you are outside or inside. Red is the most common color, and there for the ones you see the most and the most affordable. 

These are malaya garnets, sometimes spelled malaia, garnets are a blend of pyrope, almandine, and spessartite garnets. The blend of types determines their final hue. Malaya garnets are sometimes referred to as imperial garnets.

The garnets are .57ct and .54ct respectively, and were cut and tube set in sterling silver by Brighid . She then mounted them as a dangle to the bottom of the gently curved sterling silver bar. I hand made the earrings and personally cut the garnets in my own design.
